Storytelling is an ancient custom in Somali culture,love of cinema in Somalia is a modern continuation of this tradition of storytelling. In the 70s and the early 80s the popular Somali musicals also known as Riwaayado in Somali language were the main driving force behind the Somali film industry. In 1987 Somali Film Director Abdulkadir Ahmed Said released the Short film Geedka Nolosha (tree of life) which in 1988 won the Best Short film category on the Turin Film Festival[1]
